What you need to do if you lost or found a pet
There are a bunch of us out here who are waiting to hear of a lost or found pet. Do not waste a minute to let us know. We will not judge you. We appreciate animal owners who actually care enough to search for their pets. If your animal was picked up by the Animal Control you have 3-7 days to claim it, so time is limited.
What you need to do if your pet has gone missing.

Keep calling til you talk to someone and you know they are writing your information down.. Keep them updated that your pet is still missing. One girl here in town got her dog back 3-4 months later. She had already given up months ago. You need to keep these places updated incase your pet comes in down the line.
They only keep animals here for 3-7 days. Put a collar on your dogs people. If your dog has a collar it will be kept for 7 days.. If not.. 3 is all.
-The best thing you can do for yourself is to keep a photo of your pet incase this happens to you.
-Call WSPL and let them know. I try and copy down their lost and found pets here to this site. (1-815-673-8000) or email them at WSPL@THERADIOGROUP.NET
-Post something here on the Lost and Found thread... If you post a thread here I can help you with the rest.

-Place an ad on the Mediacom Channel. You will need to go out to the Mediacom Building out North to do that. I believe it is $8 a day.
-Call your local Vets.
-Your County Humane Societies especially. They can only hold strays for 3-7 days. Depending on if they have a collar or not.
Livingston County Humane ( 1-815-842-1025 ) or click here... www2.lchumanesociety.com/tis/inde....on=view_webpage
Don't think that your pet couldn't possibly be in a different County.
-Streator Online is also a good way to get the word out there. That address is ... soforum.proboards103.com
You will have to create a user id to post on there.
-Another good place is here.. streatorjumpin.proboards98.com
I believe you will also have to create a name.
If you need additional help email me at Jaymehext@aol.com
Something you can do before your pet gets lost is take a number of photos, especially side views. Pretty much all the mix stray dogs are lab or shepherd mixes, and all the stray full breed dogs are black labs, so photos do wonders.
Get your dog chipped and if you relocate, let them know where you moved to to keep the file on your dog current.
Also get your dog a nice dog tag. Maybe someone will find it & call you before calling ACO - then you don't have to pay!
Here is the site I always use: www.boomerangtags.com/
The tags are metal & engraved - it don't wear off! Plus you can have info on both sides of the tag. For my dog, I have her name, my name, our address, my cell # (I won't be at home if she's missing, I'll be out looking). On the back, I have my home #, my husband's cell #, and our vet's office name. Vet's name b/c I hope if she got hit by a car, someone would take her there - vet would let me know & bill me. A tag is $9 - same as if you got the cheap-o ones out of those machines....
These are great for gifts for new pet owners!
